Arvoreta, com até 7 m de altura, ereto, caducifólia, com ramos angulosos, e as vezes espinhosos; casca do caule de cor avermelhada nas extremidades dos galhos e acinzentadas no tronco e galhos maiores; folhas simples, inteiras, cartáceas, glabras, com nervuras pinadas, alternas ou fasciculadas, ovais, elípticas ou oblongas, obtusas ou agudas, verde-luzentes, avermelhadas quando novas, dispostas em grupos de 2 ou 3, com até 8 cm de comprimento, com pecíolos curtos; flores bissexuadas, regulares, solitárias ou em fascículos paucifloros, nas axilas superiores ou terminais, sésseis, corola verm
